Meet Suzanne (and her adorable family!), our April Athlete of the Month!!!

suzanne

Suzanne has been a member of CFP for 2 years this month!!!  And she is a beast!  We’ve actually featured her as Athlete of the Month once before, but the internet seems to have swallowed that post whole and we cannot find it anywhere on the interwebs!!  We figured it was high time to create another post to highlight this amazing athlete and wonderful member of our community!

Suzanne came into CrossFit looking to get in better physical shape as well as to take care of herself mentally and emotionally in order to be a better wife, mom, employee, etc.  She has done just that and continues to improve week after week and month after month, even after 2 years of CrossFit!  Suzanne is the kind of athlete coaches love…if there are percentages for a weightlift that day, Suzanne comes in with her numbers on a sticky note, she has a game plan for the WOD, knows whether she’s planning to Rx or scale and takes coaching really well.  Suzanne is smart, listens to her coaches, stays injury free & just like a fine wine, keeps getting better with age 😉

Suzanne’s Athlete Profile

  1. Tell us about yourself in a few sentences.  I was born in Dayton, Ohio and relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio to obtain my bachelors and master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. I worked at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the University of Cincinnati as an adjunct professor for several years prior to relocating to Charlotte, NC. Currently, I work at Levine Children’s Hospital. I have a very supportive husband, Robert, a beautiful 7 year old daughter, Maddie, and 2 spoiled papillon dogs (Bella and Bijou).
  1. What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit?  My goals for going to CrossFit are twofold: 1) become a better version of myself from the previous day, and 2) become balanced.  It is a daily challenge to juggle the demands of a career, motherhood, “taking care of me,” etc.  I have learned that overeating is about being out of balance and disconnected….and using that as trigger to overindulge on unhealthy foods. I feel like a different person exiting the gym than when I entered the gym and in-turn, use that positive momentum to be a better wife, mother, healthcare provider, etc.
  1. What is your favorite CF exercise?  Anything that requires a barbell and weights….back squats, front squats, shoulder press, etc. …and yes…even the Olympic lifts☺
  1. What CF exercise do you least like?  It is a toss-up between rowing and thrusters.
  1. What would you tell someone considering trying CFP?  People who go to CrossFit are regular people, young and old, who aspire to be a better physical version of themselves.  It’s that diversity that will inspire you to reach deeper inside and push yourself to get stronger, faster, and better.  To this day, I certainly appreciate the ability to scale the workouts as needed to meet my individual physical needs. After segments of time, you will realize how strong you have become and rely on your CrossFit family for support and encouragement. Although some of the movements of CrossFit are challenging, it will truly change your life one day at a time. Being a part of CrossFit allows you to test your boundaries…it certainly has pushed me outside of my comfort zone many times but with excellent coaches, gains will be evident. Speaking of excellent coaches….it is without a doubt that CrossFit Pineville has some of the BEST coaches in the industry. They have superior knowledge, never-ending support, and genuine concern for each member! Come try it…CrossFit will surely become your addictive pleasure!!!

Keep up all the good work, Suzanne!  We’re so glad to have you at CFP!!
