April Athlete of the Month – Cory McCleaf

IMG_5113

Starting this month, we will be announcing our awesome Athlete on the Month on the 2nd Wednesday of each month!   We are proud to kick it off with none other than Cory McCleaf! Cory came to CFP in June of last year.  Chances are, if you have come to any of our social events, you have met Cory.  He is one of the first people to come up and say hello to someone new and he is always there to cheer a fellow athlete on when they are struggling with the WOD!

This year Cory signed up for his very first CrossFit Open and after less than a year of CrossFit experience, he placed 581st in our region!  For those of you who competed or know a little something about the Open, you know this is no small feat.  He also paired up with the famous Casey Smith last fall and competed in SuperFit Charlotte.  The two guys were a duo to be reckoned with and did us proud!  Way to go Cory…you are making CFP proud!  Keep up all the good work!!!

We asked Cory to tell you a few things about himself.  Here is what he had to say…

  1. Tell us about yourself in a few sentences.  I am what most southerners call a Yankee, although I hate the Yankees. I moved to Charlotte from PA in June of 2014, and have no plans to return north. I am a lover of fitness, picking things up and putting them down is my favorite. I have spent the majority of my life as an athlete, and am constantly surrounding myself with people who are trying to better themselves. Some people might say I am very friendly. My opinion, one can never have too many friends.
  2. What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit?  Through CrossFit I hope to achieve the best version of myself. One, I obviously want to be bigger, faster, Stronger. The main reasons most people train. But also, I found in the community of CrossFit, it’s a team atmosphere. So Secondly I hope to achieve a motivational standard where I can grow as a person.
  3. What is your favorite CF exercise?  My favorite exercise would be any type of body weight pulls, i.e. pull-ups, chest to bar and muscle ups. Most likely because they come relatively easy to me, and I smile when I see them in a WOD.
  4. What CF exercise do you least like?  My least favorite would fall between Wall Balls and Double Unders. Walls balls just suck, and my doubles are very inconsistent.
  5. What would you tell someone considering trying CFP?   When I first saw the CrossFit invasion of the Fitness world I was very much against it. I was very set in my old ways of training. I would tell anyone to try CrossFit with an open mind before too much judgement is passed. It is an extremely different world, and in my opinion a great world.
Congrats again, Cory, and if you see him around the box, be sure to say good job!!!
