Coach Todd’s Profile

  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.  I am 35 years old. I grew up in Indiana where I married my wife, Alyssa. We have been married for 13 years and have 3 children. I am a Firefighter at Fort Mill Fire Department. I have my Level I trainer certificate, and CrossFit Football. In my spare time, I love hanging out at the box with my family, crossfitting together, and watching my boys play soccer.
  1. How did you get into CrossFit and why do you like coaching.  I got introduced to CrossFit at the fire department when a few people from my work started doing it. At first I hated it, but eventually I started going to Snap Fitness and I slowly started doing the workouts. At first I didn’t know the movements so I thought it was so stupid and it was the dumbest program there was. I later found out that because I didn’t know the movements it was a challenge for me. I then started doing the workouts regularly after work at the gym. After about 2 months of doing it at the gym, I decided to try a real box and a real CrossFit class. I don’t remember my first workout, but I know that I was hooked from that day forward. I cancelled my membership at Snap and I became a member at FMCF. Once I became familiar with the movements I went and got my Level 1 certificate and started coaching. I’ve been doing it ever since and that was in 2009. I absolutely love it and I even have people from the fire station involved in CrossFit. My whole family CrossFits and my oldest son is my workout partner! My favorite part about CrossFit is the competition and challenge I get when I can’t do a movement. I also love the rush and adrenaline I get when I hit a PR. I love seeing people push past things that they never thought possible, and helping them achieve their goals.
  1. What’s your favorite crossfit movement as well as what do you hate the most.  I like all the power movements – power clean, power snatch, etc, because power and speed are king. My least favorite is definitely the thruster because I have a terrible rack position.
  1. What would you tell someone considering getting into CrossFit or joining Crossfit Pineville?  CrossFit will change you as much mentally as it will physically. Every class is a challenge. CFP has a great coaching staff that preaches quality movements over quantity. If you want to be better today than you were yesterday then EMBRACE THE SUCK!
