January’s coach highlight is Tyler Johnson!
If you haven’t met Tyler, meet Tyler! He is a NC native, originally from Statesville and moved to the Charlotte area just last year. When he is not at the box coaching, you can find him in the great outdoors. He enjoys getting outside as much as possible (though all this rain has made that a little more difficult!!).
Tyler got into CrossFit in college while he was preparing to go into the Navy. The community aspect drew him right in and he was hooked. Tyler is a great coach and is always willing to give you an extra push or cheer you on!
We asked him a few questions about himself and here is what he had to say…
- Tell us a little about yourself. I’m 25 years old and I was born and raised in Statesville, NC. I’m a proud Catamount and I enjoy anything outdoors, but I’m also a huge nerd at heart. I’ll gladly discuss Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter in detail if you ever feel the urge! I love dogs, good coffee, donuts, and the good old US of A!
- How did you get into CrossFit and why do you love coaching? I got into CrossFit during college when I was preparing myself to go into the Navy. A friend and training partner from back home was preparing for a different branch of service and we started doing CrossFit because we heard it would help us both accomplish our respective goals. I love coaching because it lets me see the other side of CrossFit other than working out myself. Seeing others struggle with certain movement patterns and then seeing them get it down is awesome.
- What is your favorite CrossFit movement? Your least favorite? I’m a huge fan of cleans, power or full. I also really like pull-ups/muscle-ups. I absolutely loathe thrusters and wall balls; coincidentally they’re basically the same movement.
- What would tell someone considering CrossFit/CFP? By all means, give it a go. Crossfit is all about the community and that helps so many people in so many different ways. It’s a good way to stay accountable to yourself and your goals.
Tyler we are glad you are part of our team! Keep up all the great coaching!!!
