The 2016 CrossFit Games season is upon us!!  Mid December, the CrossFit Games released the dates for the Open, Regionals, & the Games out in Carson, California.

If you’re new to CrossFit or don’t know a whole lot about the CrossFit Games here’s a quick explanation, highlighting the Open:

“The CrossFit Games are the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth. They are world-renowned as a grueling test for the world’s toughest athletes and a thrilling experience for spectators.

The Games season is broken up into three stages, the Open, the Regionals, the Games. The first stage is the Open. This five-week, five-workout competition is held in the winter in CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms around the world. Workouts are released online each Thursday, and athletes have until the following Monday to submit their scores. Anyone who’s at least 14 years old can sign up, and join in the first stage of the CrossFit Games season. This year’s Open kicks off February 25, 2016.”

Sure, you and I are not going to end up qualifying for the Games (this year anyways 😉 ), but even those who do start with the Open.  The Open is open for everyone!  Last year, they unveiled their scaled division, allowing for even more participation.  No muscle up, no problem, you can still participate!

We encourage any and all of our athletes to sign up for the Open!  We run the Open workouts on Saturdays, usually 2 heats in each class (830/930) allowing athletes to count reps for each other.  You then submit your scores online & see how you stack up in our gym, our state, region and in the world!  Of course, it’s fun to see your progress from year to year as well!  Most always, athletes are more fit than the year before, doing skilled movements they once thought impossible in the Open the year before.

Get ready, Open registration begins next Thursday, Jan. 14th!
