Meet Travis, our March 2016 Athlete of the Month!!

Travis

Travis & his wife Cara joined our gym just over 9 months ago.  In those short 9 months, they have both become an awesome part of our CFP community!  Travis is what some might call a reformed meathead, having trained in globo gyms most of his life and following traditional powerlifting methods 😉

Travis is very strong, but as most traditional gym go-ers do, neglected his flexibility for years and is now making great strides to improve.  Travis always walks in the box with a smile looking forward to whatever the programming may bring him.  He is quick to cheer on his fellow athletes and looks forward to competing against friends he has made at the box.

Travis, we’re so glad to have you & Cara at CFP!!  Keep up all the hard work, the best is yet to come!

Travis’ Athlete Profile

  1. Tell us about yourself in a few sentences.  I work in sales management and spend much of my week traveling around the state. We moved to South Carolina last year, this is the first time I have not been a NC resident in my life. I turn 33 years old this month and feel like I’m finally starting to gain some wisdom with the gray hairs but know I still have much to learn. I try to remind myself to make the most of everyday and not take it for granted because each day I have one less! I am fortunate to have a loving wife, family, and friends and I am thankful for the simple things in life!
  2. What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit?  I hope to achieve a greater capacity of functional fitness and overall well being. As I continue my progression through CrossFit I would like to try and compete, but I have to continue to push myself developing range of motion.
  3. What is your favorite CF exercise?  It’s funny because I struggled with these horribly when I started CrossFit, but the exercise I enjoy most is the clean. I have just begun to find my ability to generate power and it’s rewarding to finally see progression through PR’s.
  4. What CF exercise do you least like?  Overhead squat! Again, range of motion…give me any other squat and we are good. This one is impossible for me. One day!
  5. What would you tell someone considering trying CFP?  I joined CFP because my wife wanted to take up some form of exercise and did not want to go to a traditional gym. I have trained using traditional methods my entire life and did not know how receptive I would be to adapting a different school of thought. I can honestly say that 9 months later I’m not sure I could go back to traditional training. I enjoy the competitive nature of the programming but also never feel pressured to perform 100% if I’m having an off day. I think what I enjoy most is the comradery. You could not ask for a better environment to achieve your version of success, whatever that may be.
