Meet Shelly Jones!

IMG_4231

We’re excited & honored to feature Shelly as our May 2015 Athlete of the Month!  Shelly is married to her fire-fighter husband, Eric, & is a hardworking, homeschooling, mom of 3!  She sets such a great example for her kids by making sure to carve out time in her weekly schedule to make it into the gym in order to focus on her health & well-being.  Like most moms out there & so many “regular” CrossFitters, she doesn’t have the desire to compete, but she wants to be strong & capable through life.  Those are great goals, Shelly!

Shelly has made so many improvements since first starting CrossFit in December 2013.  She is continuously getting stronger, always persevering through movements she’s unsure of, and challenging herself to get better!  We’re so proud of your continued hard work Shelly & are thankful to have you as a part of the CFP community!  Keep up the hard work, the best is yet to come!

Shelly’s Athlete Profile

First of all, I feel a little weird being called an athlete!

1. Tell us about yourself in a few sentences.  Well, I’m long-winded and a talker so this will be hard! I am a wife and stay-at-home/homeschool mom of three–ages 4, 7 and 9.  I am apart of a wonderful church community and really value those that are in my life.  I love to be outdoors and really love anything that involves being with friends and family.  Ok, I’ve deleted like a thousand sentences, we will just leave it at that!
2. What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit? I hope to achieve a stronger and healthier me.  I have no intentions to ever compete, or become some heavy weight champion 🙂 but I love pushing myself in different areas.  I want to feel strong and capable.
3. What is your favorite CF exercise? My favorite CrossFit exercises would have to be anything involving just body weight.  I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but I like when I see burpees.
4. What CF exercise do you least like? My least favorite CF exercise would have to be Turkish get ups, sorry Warren!  I see the value in them, but do not enjoy them.
5. What would you tell someone considering trying CFP?  Before I came to CFP I was not someone who exercised almost ever.  So if you are thinking “CrossFit isn’t my thing”, or “it is too intense”, you can always scale and make it your own.  CFP has the best coaches ever, honestly I don’t think I would have come a second time if it weren’t for Michelle or continued to come if it weren’t for Stephanie and Warren and the wonderful people that I workout with.  I come in every single day very nervous, but feel so comforted by the people that are around me!  One last thing!  Crossfit has not only challenged me physically but also mentally and emotionally.  I am not the best at technical moves and will really get nervous, but find myself getting over those nerves and doing things I never thought I would!
Thanks so much for sharing, Shelly!!  Congrats & keep it up!
