Starting next Monday, 6/8, we begin a new mesocycle. And it’s going to be a good one! 🙂
If you need a refresher on what a mesocycle is, the benefits and why we choose to program in mesocycles here at CFP, read up from Dr. Warren here. Another great read from Dr. Warren on programming & periodization was posted here last week. We strive to keep our athletes engaged in their training, making progress, getting stronger & more fit. Through the use of mesocycles, we aim to keep our athletes in the Resistance Stage of training (adaptation & progress) and reduce the risk for injury for longer periods of time.
So what will our new mesocycle consist of!? Get ready for some summer cleaning…
We will be testing our:
- 1 Rep Max Clean/Power Clean
- 1K Row time
- Grace time
Over the next 8 weeks, we will be performing lots of cleans/power cleans, front squats, pressing/overhead work, and rowing intervals. Of course, it will all be mixed in with our general programming. Look for heavier weightlifting days with short, sprint, anaerobic WODs, WODs with work/rest intervals to allow recovery time in order for you to push your thresholds, and one longer WOD a week to focus on your aerobic capacity. We’ll continue to offer fun partner/team WODs on Saturdays, Olympic Lifting class on Sundays, and our Gymnastics speciality class will begin back on Saturdays after July 4th (so stay tuned for details!).
As always, if you have questions about this mesocycle, feel free to talk to your coaches. Happy cleaning (& rowing), athletes! 😉
