One thing we can agree on…there are A LOT of protein powders out there!!!  Most CrossFitters and workout enthusiasts alike take some form of protein powder in order to help build lean muscle mass.  Let’s face it, we’re busy people and it’s nearly impossible to get all the necessary protein for athletes from food.  So enter the protein shake!  Most probably take a whey protein, unless a plant based or dairy free option is needed for dietary reasons or personal preference.

Another thing I think we can all agree on…all whey proteins are NOT created equal!!  There are many kinds of whey protein out there: concentrate, isolate, hydrolyzed, casein, denatured, undenatured.  Phew, there’s a lot to know!  In the simplest terms, these just have to do with how much protein, lactose and fat is present.  The unfortunate news, most protein powders are processed, “packaged” foods that contain toxic, denatured protein.  Denatured = take away or alter the natural qualities of.

Seems like a no brainer to choose the less processed protein, an undenatured whey protein, as part of your diet!  **Whey protein isolate is often called the *purest* form of protein, in that it’s the highest in protein and lowest in fat.  This translates into actually being more processed in order to remove the fat content.

Another benefit to undenatured whey protein – research shows it can boost glutathione levels!  What is glutathione?  Only the most powerful antioxidant in your body!!  It’s found in every cell in your body, contains free radicals (reactive, toxic particles) in your cells, and supports your immune system by producing and replicating healthy white blood cells.  See, you want higher glutathione levels!

Struggling with fatigue, low mood and energy?  Almost all patients with these symptoms have low glutathione levels.  Low glutathione levels can also prevent us from fighting off any health challenges as it will keep us from remaining strong and retaining or maintaining wellness.  Who even knew about this super important Master Antioxidant!?
