Meet the Smith family – Wendi, Emani, Naomi, Stephen & Josh

Wendi, Naomi & Stephen are all CFP athletes!  (We’re pretty sure Emani & Josh would be, too, however they live in different states ;))  Since joining, Wendi has been a regular in the box at least 4 times a week!!  She is dedicated to getting herself fit and healthy so she can continue to enjoy life as she ages (quite gracefully, might I add!)!  Wendi has the best spirit and can always make us laugh! She’s a great cheerleader and won’t sell herself short, she pushes through a WOD just as tough as the rest of them!  We’re so glad to have Wendi as a CFP athlete!

1. Tell us about yourself in a few sentences

I am a mother of three adult children and going on my 30th year of marriage with husband Stephen. Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, (“woof” “woof,” Dog Pound). Moved to Fort Mill S.C. in the summer of 2008. For three years (as a teen) I was in competitive swimming year round. Also in my teens-20’s I was heavily into Modern, Lithurgical and African Dance. I then taught dance in my 30’s and exercising became more and more sporadic from that point on. My husband challenged me to enter three 5K’s last year to get back in some shape and I learned through that experience that I AM NOT into running.

2. What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit?

I would like to get in shape in a healthy way and I want to be more toned so that I can age gracefully.

3. What is your favorite CF exercise?

I really don’t care for any of the exercises, but the one exercise that I don’t really mind doing would be rowing.

4. What CF exercise do you least like?

I don’t like running at all. I prefer to complete the running assignments (and other selected assignments) quickly. I shared that it’s like eating my vegetables first.

5. What would you tell someone considering trying CFP?

From the perspective of an older “athlete,” I would tell interested parties that if I can do it, they can do it. I really appreciate how the coaches are so supportive with modifying the WOD if necessary and at the same time, willing to increase the assignment when they think I am able to accomplish that task. Their faith in me really motivates me and I know that they are very serious about keeping me safe from injuries; form is pushed before progress. It is my understanding that Crossfit is similar where ever it’s offered, but what makes CFP so special are the coaches (Michelle is my She-Hero=S-hero) in addition to the family/team atmosphere they create for the athletes.
