Happy August athletes!! Some people may think summer is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away the grill! Summer & fall are the perfect times for grilling!
It can be really tricky to find a good marinade or BBQ sauce that isn’t full of high fructose corn syrup, sugar and a myriad of ingredients you can’t pronounce!! Enter Mark’s Daily Apple & Primal BBQ Sauce! Mark’s Daily Apple is a great website to find lots of Primal (Paleo, caveman) recipes and the latest and greatest research on health and fitness. Definitely a site worth bookmarking!
You probably already have most of the ingredients to make this sauce at home, just shop your pantry! What I love about this sauce is you can tweak it to fit your taste buds! Want a sweeter sauce, add a little more honey. You like spicy? Add a little more hot sauce & chili powder. Tangy? More apple cider vinegar. Totally up to you & your taste buds!
I’ve used this sauce on the grill, as a dipping sauce & in the crockpot, so basically, it’s a sauce of all trades! 🙂
Ingredients
- 1/3 c tomato paste
- 2 tbsp melted butter (or ghee to be Paleo approved)
- 1/2 – 1 tsp hot sauce
- 1-2 tbsp honey
- 2-3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp tamari (or coconut aminos to be Paleo approved)
- 1/2 tsp mustard
- 2 tbsp water
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
In a small bowl, mix the tomato paste, butter (or ghee), hot sauce, honey, vinegar tamari (or coconut aminos), mustard and water. In a separate bowl, mix the allspice, cinnamon, ground black pepper, chili powder, paprika and onion powder. Mix the wet and dry ingredients together. Makes about 1 cup. Brush on meat before grilling or dip cooked meat in sauce.
